On 25th June, 2022, was celebrated by IOUN Volunteers alongside Maritime Workers as the “International Day of Seafarers”.
This year's event was celebrated by the group with insightful lesson presented by Amb. ---- to the Coordinators Forum. In his presentation, Amb. ---- explained that International Seafarers Day comes every year on the twenty-fifth of June; to remind the value and importance, category and a wide segment of active employment in our Maritime world. The event is used to express the category of great challenges and risks faced by this institution. Some of the highlighted challenges include major and minor natural disasters with other challenges of being forced by their duties to be separated from their families and homelands for long periods.
The celebration of seafarers 'day began for the first time when the International Maritime Organization decided to launch a global initiative to celebrate seafarers around the world, and set 15th June for the International Seafarers' day. The aim is to recognize that everything we use in our daily lives has been directly or indirectly affected by maritime transport.
Later, UN General Assembly adopted the official celebration of the International Day of seafarers; in recognition of the great contribution made by every sailor around the world.
According to the International Maritime Organization, 90% of international trade is transported by sea by ships, and the sailors working in these ships are not only responsible for the operation of ships, but also responsible for the safe transportation and delivery.
